"Spinal Subluxation Week"

Chester Sowell, the mayor of Dotham, Alabama, approved November 28 to December 4, 1999 as "Subluxation Awareness Week." To help celebrate the occasion, a local newspaper published a photo of Sewell and nine chiropractors with the caption:

A spinal subluxation is a misaligned vertebrae that puts pressure on spinal nerves, causing interference to the nervous system of the body. Subluxations are caused by such things as the birth process, falls, stress, lifestyle, and trauma. Many times they go unnoticed because they may be painless. Eleven chiropractic offices participated in this event and educated the public on what a subluxation is, how we become subluxated, and why it is vitally important to have your spine checked for subluxations on a regular basis.

Autstin Fit Magazine reported that a similar event took place in Austin, Texas, in September, when chiropractors conducted a "city-wide public education week dedicated to achieving optimal health through natural chiropractic care."
